Employees paid by The Texas A&M University system fall into many categories. The primary category distinction used by the Time and Effort System is whether or not an employee is paid on a monthly (salary) basis, or on an hourly basis.
Salary and Hourly Employee differences
The Time and Effort system creates certification documents for both salaried and hourly employees, with one minor difference:
Salaried payroll records are placed in to T&E certification periods based on the pay period.
Hourly payroll records are placed in to T&E certification periods differently, depending on when the payroll occurred.
1) If the pay date (also known as “period date”) is on or before 1/7/2022, the pay date is used to assign the payroll to a certification period.
For example, an hourly employee may work a pay period from 12/13/2020 through 12/26/2020, which has a pay date of 1/4/2021. Because the pay date is in the Spring 2021 collecting period, these payroll records will be accumulated in to a cert doc for Spring 2021, not Fall of 2020.
2) Conversely, if the pay date is after 1/7/2022, the pay period end date is used to assign payroll to a certification period.
Both Salary and Hourly Employees
If an employee is paid both hourly and salaried, separate certificate documents will be created for each payroll type.
