Town Hall and Demo Q&A

The following questions highlight key information shared during the FAMISweb town hall/demo sessions held in December 2025.

General Information, Including Modernization Updates

Why did FAMISweb migrate from the mainframe, and what are the benefits?
The migration from the mainframe in November 2022 resulted in a new database structure, enhanced capabilities and a consistent design language for FAMISweb.

What are the modernization plans for FAMISweb?
Modernization will be incremental, with a focus on improving the user experience. The ultimate goal is to have a single platform to replace all three applications (Canopy, FAMISweb and 3270) at some point in the future, although they use the same databases and will coexist for some time.

Will the rollout be campus-by-campus or all at once?
General availability for all users is planned for January 8, 2026.

What is the release schedule for FAMISweb updates?
We’ve initiated a monthly update/release schedule that we plan to continue. Some releases may include more new features than others. We are also working on an updated method and process for managing and incorporating user feedback.

Features and User Experience

How is the user experience being improved in FAMISweb?
Enhancements include greater consistency, clearer language, type-ahead features, drop-down menus, deep linking, personalization, multicampus and multiyear functions and custom download settings.

What is deep linking in FAMISweb, and how does it help users?
Deep linking enables users to navigate seamlessly between FAMISweb, Workday, AggieBuy and other systems.

Can we have multiple tabs open?
FAMISweb supports multiple independent tabs, allowing users to view different accounts or campuses simultaneously.

What is the session timeout for FAMISweb?
The session timeout is currently set to one hour, similar to Canopy. This might be adjusted in the future.

Will the deep links allow us to click on the account in other applications (e.g., AggieBuy) to open FAMISweb to check account balances?
There are no immediate plans to navigate from AggieBuy to FAMISweb, only from FAMISweb to AggieBuy to access specific documents.

Does FAMISweb link to the OneCard in Emburse?
Not yet, but deep linking to Emburse is on the FAMISweb roadmap. The plan is to show Emburse data based on the report ID captured in the FAMIS transaction.

Security and Access

Will the current security model migrate to FAMISweb?
Yes, current security will migrate to the new FAMISweb security model. For now, security will continue to be managed in the old model, with a sophisticated mapping and conversion process to the new model. Eventually, entitlements will be managed in the new model, and the legacy screens will be retired in favor of a more modern, intuitive approach.

Will access changes still be processed by security administrators?
Yes, access changes will continue to be processed by security administrators as they are today. In the long term, a new and improved process is under development.

Who do you contact to change/correct profile access?
Email famishelp@tamus.edu with the details, and they will direct you to the appropriate form or process.

Will supervisors be able to view their reports’ entitlements?
Not initially, but the team is considering implementing third-party software to enable more advanced entitlement management.

Accounts and Account Management

Can you relabel or change a My Account list name?
Yes, you can rename a list in My Accounts, update its description and make other changes using the action buttons.

Will my accounts in legacy Canopy transfer to FAMISweb?
No, the My Accounts lists from Canopy will not transfer. Users are encouraged to build new lists in FAMISweb, which offers improved functionality.

Will FAMISweb allow a higher maximum record count than the Canopy maximum of 1000?
No, the maximum record count is set to maintain performance.

Can we show the fund balance for the GLs on My Accounts?
Great idea! The team is open to feedback and enhancements, and suggestions like this are being tracked for future updates.

Is the Accounts Receivable module in the plan scheduled for an update and modernization?
Yes, the modernization of Accounts Receivable is underway. New features, including customer management and full AR invoicing (including PDF generation and email), are expected to launch in early 2026. Users will be able to create and manage invoices, clone invoices and maintain customer and vendor information based on entitlements and access.

Is there a quick view to determine whether an account is GEB and to display the ARB rule (similar to how the not-frozen/active/non-SRS “chips” work)?
Great idea! Not currently, but this is a good suggestion. The team is considering ways to make such attributes more prominent in future releases.

Will we be able to complete DCR and DBR actions across system members (as we can with PCTs)?
Not in the initial release. DCRs and DBRs across system members require additional end-of-month settlement processes. However, this is a function “on the table” for possible future development.

Can we add the budget flags on the summary page (FAMIS Screen 019)?
Yes, this is possible, and the team welcomes feedback on which flags and features are most helpful. The application includes a feedback button for submitting such requests.

When you search for accounts by a department code, does FAMISweb display all accounts, including frozen accounts? Do frozen or flagged-for-delete accounts look different than active accounts?
Yes, you can include deleted and frozen accounts in the search. Frozen, not frozen, active, not active and SRS attributes are labeled with “chips” at the top of the grid. The team can work on improvements to make frozen accounts more obvious.

Can you search for accounts without the member to see all members where that account exists (FAMIS Screen 277, for document numbers)?
Currently, account search is within a specific system member.

If an account has multiple support accounts, can we pick and choose which support accounts to view together?
This is a good suggestion, but the ability to select which support accounts to display together is not currently available. It may be considered for future development.

Is it possible to get the Ref C for vouchers?
This field (the exit field in AggieBuy) is not currently in the FAMISweb database, but the team can add this to the list for research and consideration for development.

Does FAMISweb have an audit function similar to FAMIS Screen 886 (Account Audit Trail Inquiry)?
This feature is coming soon with the SL maintenance and edit pages, possibly in an early 2026 release. Account attribute management and audit trail of attribute changes are in development.

Will FAMIS Transaction Portal be separate or integrated with FAMISweb?
The Transaction Portal will remain separate for now. Integration under the FAMISweb umbrella may happen in the future.

Invoicing

Will FAMISweb be replacing IPayments for invoicing?
Not at this time. FAMISweb invoicing is for agencies that do not currently have a means to set up invoices.

Can we search for invoices by billing department and/or billing account?
Yes, searching by billing department and account number is planned, though the feature may not be fully functional at release.

Payroll and Transactions

How does FAMISweb integrate payroll and Workday?
Certain payroll pages feature deep linking into Workday for employee records and pay results.

Is it possible to submit multiple months of payroll corrections in one routing document?
No, unfortunately. PCTs were built intentionally to adjust/correct one payroll at a time.

On the Payroll by UIN page, can the 1000-entry limit be increased?
The 1000-entry limit is currently in place for performance reasons. The team may consider expanding this for downloads, but not for on-screen viewing.

Will we be able to download transactions (payroll, payables, etc.) across multiple fiscal years, especially for SRS accounts?
Currently, downloads are locked to a single fiscal year. The team is open to feedback and may consider changes if there is a strong use case.

Fixed Assets and Property

Do you anticipate any property/inventory being migrated into FAMISweb in the future?
Yes, property and inventory modules are planned for future integration into FAMISweb. In fact, a comprehensive modernization of fixed assets is underway, with a target completion date of mid-2026. The goal is to fully replace the green screens for fixed assets in FAMISweb.

Data Integrations and Uploads

Will this change how we upload data to FAMIS from our student information systems, such as Banner?
No, not at this time. Data uploads will function as they do today. Any enhancements made for specific institutions may be extended in the future.

Training, Documentation and Support

What is the approach to training, documentation and support for FAMISweb, and how will users learn about new features and functions?
The team’s primary focus is to highlight and communicate new features and capabilities, making the application as intuitive as possible for users. While comprehensive training is not the central emphasis, the team is developing some supporting materials (documentation, cheat sheets, possible onboarding or “new feature” tours) to help users navigate new functionality. These resources will be posted on the FAMISweb web pages. Users are encouraged to explore the system, provide feedback and suggest areas where additional training or job aids may be beneficial. If a true need for more formal training is identified, the team is open to designing targeted training solutions.

How do we request help or submit questions when FAMISweb goes live?
Please continue to use famishelp@tamus.edu for questions and support.
