CIO Update for the Week of Jun 2

There is a lot of information in this week’s CIO Blog

For the week of June 2, the following items of general interest are worth commenting on:

News

New

  • IT Governance

    • The Administrative Computing Council meets Monday at 1:00 p.m.
    • The CIOs meet for their monthly Chat Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

  • IT Vendors

    • CGI sent us this message after their Agentic AI Lunch & Learn:
      • Thank you again for the opportunity to engage with the Texas A&M IT leadership community and explore the exciting and emerging topic of Agentic AI. We truly appreciated the platform to connect, exchange ideas, and spark meaningful conversation around the potential of this transformative technology As a follow-up, I’ve attached the presentation materials from our session
      • Thanks again for your partnership; we look forward to future conversations

  • A series of targeted phishing attacks against multiple A&M System members over the past several years where attackers use social engineering, credential harvesting, and “push-bombing” to bypass current multi-factor authentication (MFA) has resulted in multiple security incidents causing financial loss and business interruption to those affected system members

Texas A&M System Cybersecurity, in consultation with the A&M System Executive IT Council, recommends the immediate implementation of phish-resistant MFA (such as Duo’s Verified Push) for all authentication events, and the elimination of voice call MFA options

SMS one-time code authentication may also be eliminated for added security

  • June 24 HUB Event

    • The event has been moved to the RELLIS Chapel
    • The HUB office is lookiinng for two more IT Forum Panelists; please see the June 2 email for more information
