Roles

Time and Effort uses a role-based security model.  The administrative roles are granted to Time and Effort users through Single Sign On (SSO).  However, the Employee and Manager roles are inferred from an employee’s position rather than being explicitly granted.

Listed below are the roles supported by Time and Effort with a brief description of each role and its responsibilities.

Employee

As an employee the certifies his or her own time, your role in the time and effort certification process is fairly simple. You must approve your own Certification Documents.  If you are also designated as a manager of employees who do not self certify, you will also have responsibilities as a manager.

Manager

The manager role in the time and effort system is assigned to you if you have employees reporting to you that work on accounts that require certification.

Administrator

The role of the departmental and central administrator in the Time and Effort process is to work with the PI’s and Managers to facilitate the certification process and make sure the process is completed for your Adloc or Institution.
