MicroStrategy Dashboard Navigation Practice Exercises

To complete the exercise, you will need to use the Human Capital Management (HCM) Executive Dashboard, System Management Turnover Dashboard or Financial Executive Dashboard. These exercises will help you get familiar with navigating the dashboards, so you can quickly and easily find the information in the future.

Directions

  1. Choose your exercise.
    • There are three (3) to choose from.
    • Use the tabs below to select an exercise.
    • Each exercise includes several questions.
  2. Explore the relevant MicroStrategy Dashboard to answer each question.
    • There are no right or wrong answers.
    • Your answers may change over time as the data updates.

Before You Begin

  1. Log into MicroStrategy using the link in your SSO menu.
  2. Open the HCM Executive Dashboard, System Management Turnover Dashboard or Financial Executive Dashboard.
  3. Reset your dashboards: Select the Reset icon in the upper-right corner. If it’s greyed out, the dashboard is already reset.
  1. Navigate to the Current Year Overview page.
    1. What is the beginning year balance for your member? Which fund group has the largest carry forward?
    2. Filter to a division, college, or department. What are the total year-to-date revenues and expenses?
    3. How much funding is available to spend? Is it enough to cover all planned expenses?
    4. How much is available to spend for a specific department?
  2. Navigate to the Current Year Revenue page.
    1. What percentage of revenue has your member collected? What percentage has a specific division or college collected?
    2. Is the current revenue collection in line with prior fiscal years?
    3. How much revenue was collected this fiscal month?
  3. Navigate to the Current Year Expense page.
    1. What amount of the expense budget has been spent?
    2. What percentage of expenses are for personnel?
    3. Which fund group category has the most expenses?
    4. Are this month’s expenses in line with prior months and years?
  4. Navigate to the Reference page.
    1. What is included in the Blended Begin Fund Balance?
    2. What is the formula for Blended Fund Balance less Commitments Less Enc?
  1. Navigate to the Employee Data page.
    1. Which members are shown in the footer? What does this reveal about the page you’re viewing?
    2. Name five filters available in the filter panel (hint: there are more than five).
    3. Which race/ethnicity has the largest headcount? What is the total?
    4. What is the average annual salary for workers aged 40-49?
  2. Navigate to the Position Data page.
    1. How many filled positions are displayed? How many are primary positions?
    2. Which EEO job category has the highest average monthly salary? What is the amount?
  3. Navigate to the Positions by Organization page.
    1. What is the total headcount for student workers?
    2. Using the chevrons, what is the lowest organizational level shown?
  4. Navigate to the Positions by Salary page.
    1. Who has the highest average annualized FTE salary?
    2. Besides position employee type, name two attributes that can color the bubbles.
  5. Navigate to the Detail Data page.
    1. Select a link in the grid. What happens?
  6. Navigate to the Reference Page.
    1. What is the definition of Annualized FTE Salary?
  1. Navigate to the System Summary page.
    1. What is the annual turnover rate for your member in the Annual Turnover by Member grid? What happens when you select this number?
    2. What was the retention rate for the last fiscal year?
    3. Which employee category had the highest turnover rate?
    4. Which job family had the highest turnover count?
  2. Navigate to the Turnover Trends page.
    1. What is the turnover rate for females in fiscal month 1?
    2. Which race/ethnicity had the highest turnover rate in 2024?
    3. What happens when you select a category at the top of the screen?
    4. Using the Turnover by Organization grid, what is the average monthly headcount for your member?
  3. Navigate to the Current Year Turnover Demographics page.
    1. What happens when you select a turnover event link in the Detail Data grid?
  4. Navigate to the Current Year Turnover Details page.
    1. Select a business process reason in the Current Year Turnover by Reason grid. What happens?
  5. Navigate to the Current Year Turnover Matrix page.
    1. Which age group has the highest annual turnover rate? What is the rate?
  6. Navigate to the Turnover Detail page.
