On 9/1/2017, TRS will be implementing a new retirement processing application called TEAM. The TRS TEAM system will replace the TRAQS application we have worked with for many years. One significant change to TEAM’s submission process is that BPP is now required to send all paid employees’ data – excluding student workers – to TRS, whether they are TRS members or not.
This will dramatically increase the number of records being transmitted to TRS. As a result, it’s important that all System members process TRS Temporary IDs properly.
To help with this, BPP provides the MONTRS02 / BP8609 report to identify two categories of TRS Temp ID errors. Handling these errors prior to performing the ‘MD’ demographic data submission to TRS will reduce the number of exceptions created; therefore, all system members should work the exceptions listed on this report before submitting the MD file. This will become even more important in September when we transition to the TEAM system and begin sending more employee records to TRS.
Please contact B/P/P to re-run MONTRS02 after these errors have been corrected.
NOTIFY B/P/P IF SSN HAS BEEN SENT TO TRS
‘QQ’ records that have their TRS Deduct code set to ‘Y’ are reported with this error. These individuals need to have their TRS Temporary ID converted to a Social Security Number (SSN) so that a change record can be sent to TRS. Processors should set the BPP’s TRS Deduct code to ‘N’ on QQ records to prevent this error from recurring.
NOTIFY B/P/P IF FOREIGN NATIONAL
This error identifies employees who have BPP Temporary SSNs and need a TRS Temporary ID. As of now, processors should continue to contact BPP Operations to obtain a TRS Temp ID for an employee. We will contact TRS to obtain the Temp ID and update BPP so the Temp ID can be used in future transmissions.

Coming Soon! Processors will be able to obtain their own TRS Temp IDs directly from TRS and to enter them into BPP via HRConnect. Stay tuned for more information on this enhancement!
