The Texas A&M System is committed to ensuring education, research, outreach, enrichment, and job opportunities are available to everyone.
What are Digital Information Resources?
For the Texas A&M System and its members, Digital Information Resources (DIR) consists of any digital content, resources, or services that are acquired, developed, changed or distributed in support of education, research, and outreach. There are four categories of DIR:
- Applications: software, mobile apps, and web applications/plug-ins
- Hardware: computers, mobile devices, and, in some cases, digital research equipment
- Digital content: web pages, emails, social media posts, videos, word processing, and presentation files
- Office equipment: kiosks, transaction terminals, copiers, printers, phones, and fax machines
What is DIR Accessibility?
DIR Accessibility means providing electronic information and services through multiple ways so that communication is not contingent on a single sense or ability. In other words, DIR Accessibility is ensuring the functional and independent use of DIR by people of all abilities, without segregating or stigmatizing.
Digital Accessibility Officers
The Texas A&M University System has a Digital Accessibility Officer (DAO) for each agency and institution. According to the Texas DIR, roles and responsibilities include guiding and consulting, ensuring compliance, planning and reporting, and training and promoting.
