Gene Wisniewski is a software developer on The Texas A&M University System FAMIS modernization project team working with code remediation, database redesign for SQL and testing. He also provides programming support for the current FAMIS platform.
Gene feels that one obstacle is his current limited knowledge of the new languages used with the new FAMIS platform. Still, appropriate training is being provided promptly as the project progresses. Also, COVID has been an inconvenience, but the team has adapted well to working remotely and communicating through Webex, Slack and email.
Gene thinks the project is progressing well, and all of the people participating are working well together. The technology conversion behind the face of the FAMIS application is impressive.
As the project progresses, Gene is looking forward to learning and working with new technologies. He will also be glad when in-person meetings can start again.
Gene believes that FAMIS modernization greatly increases the size of the talent pool available for acquiring personnel to support the FAMIS application. The languages FAMIS currently uses are waning, and modernization updates the system to languages used by many more people and organizations.
